When to change carbon filters on RO units

What is everyone using to determine when to change the carbon elements on their RO units? Are you going by time, flow rates, or actively testing for chlorine? Looking for suggestions.

I just replace sediment and carbon every 6 months. I’ve tried other methods over the years and settled on this one.
