Am currently running 3 250 watt 14k phoenix bulbs. Its been 16 months since my last bulb change. They still seem bright but when should i replace them. Whats recommended? Also do halide bulbs lose the blue color over time. Any input is appreciated.

I wouldn't expect as much intensity after the 2 year mark compared to new bulbs. I'd start swapping out one bulb at a time every month or two.

Before my 150w phoenix bulb went out it did lose a little blue, but mostly on the actinic "pop" range of the spectrum. I had no idea how dull or dim it was until I put a new one in.

the average life expectancy for halides is 9mnths to 1yr they say 5000k hrs

I've heard of people change them anywhere from 6-18 months, but in general, I would recommend changing metal halide bulbs every 9-12 months. I hope this helps.

Also depends on how many hours a day you run them..... how many hours a day do you run them

+1, I run 250 DE MH for 8 hours and I change mine out every 11-12 months. After the 9 month mark I have noticed a decline in coral growth and color, also an increase in nuisance algae (cyano bacteria and Hair algae).

I run my 250 w DE x 2. For 4.5 hrs a day, change them out every 12 months. Lawmanrob- 8 hrs of MH doesnt bleach your stuff out? What are you keeping?
