Hello,

Today I tested my pH and it was a little low. 7.7. I know it's not a big deal right now, but I was wondering when you do add chemicals. I recently switched to Fritz blue box to try and lower Alk, so that may be playing a role here. In addition I was thanking about adding a new fish today, would it still be okay to do so?

There is no chemical that raises pH that is not an alkalinity additive.

When you determine you need alkalinity, a high pH product is called for with your pH, but there are also other ways to raise pH, such as aeration with fresher air, or growing macroalgae.

Ok, thanks.

I've never paid close attention to these products on store shelves about Raise pH or lower pH, but years ago at the lsf when they would receive their fish and or corals from their distributors the owner would use his pinpoint pH probe and check the pH of water that the fish was in and then he would adjust clean salt water with these pH drops. Is that just a very short-term thing to do to get the fish out of the bag of water that would have a bunch of ammonia in?

I put kalk into my ato resevoir every week and run my skimmer without the cup and that seems to have boosted mine from 7.8 to 8.2. Depends how oxygenated the room is with the tank
