I have never QT’s my yellow or PBT’s when they came down with ich. I simply do all I can to keep them “happy” and well fed. I switch to higher quality food, keep plenty of Nori in the tank, stopped water changes and all tinkering with the tank.
To me, it seems that keeping them in the DT is less stressful than moving them to the QT. Keeping fat and happy boosts their natural immune system which is why they did not have ich before they did. Ich is in virtually all of our tanks. It simply waits until the fish stresses and it can take hold.
I think I’ve had 4-5 episode of Ich over 20+ years and each time all my tangs recovered. Never lost one to ich.

No way to know for certain, but if a fish shows symptoms that dissappear and don’t return, and it behaves normally there’s every reason to think it’ll be OK. Various strains of ich behave differently, and a healthy slime coat often means immunity. I’ve not read through the ich management thread, but humble knows his stuff so I’m sure it’d be useful.

Well, today is exactly 27th day my fish have ich. It comes and goes. Theyre still eating although not voraciously, but eating nevertheless.
No rubbing against rocks, flashing, erratic swimmking etc.
