A little while back I had bryopsis and used Reef Flux to get rid of it. As a result my nitrates and phosphate skyrocketed. I tried to lower them slowly and tried to start up my refugium again. A month after the bryopsis started to come back so I did another round of Reef Flux. This time around I don’t want to wait to bring down my nitrates and phosphates as my sps r starting to not like it. I purchased some nopox and was going to use it to help bring it down. I just did my big water change after 3 weeks of reef flux. How soon after can I start using nopox. I plan on only using about half the dose to start. Thanks

You can start using it now. I'd actually recommend starting it slower..... That is, 1/3 dose for week one; 2/3 dose for week two; full dose on week three. If at any point by notice cyano or bacterial bloom, drop back to the next lower dose until it resolves.

K, I’ll start at 1/3 dose, I don’t want to use nopox as a means to control my nitrates and phosphates, I just want to get it down to a level that my sps can tolerate, if in a couple of months the bryopsis doesn’t come back for a third time I will start up my refugium again. Thank you redfishbluefish.

Nopox works better for nitrates than phosphates I’ve found. Depending on how high phosphates are, maybe phosguard (GFO on steroids) or GFO. I’ve found phosguard strips phosphates quite quickly so you need to monitor.

After using reef flux to kill the bryopsis it is mainly the nitrates that skyrocket well above 50 ppm, phosphates usually stayed around .15 which is high, but manageable.

Agree with @redfishbluefish

I use homemade NoPox daily as it is so simple and efficient and works so well.

I find it doesn’t do much for phosphates until you have your NO3 and PO4 where you want them, then it does work IMO to hold and maintain.

I feel your pain. First battle is over and second begins.
