So Im debating adding more fish to my forty breeder I already have 7 small fish. I'm upgrading sooner or later not worried there but I have like no nutrients. Between the fuge live rock and skimmer I run 0/0 majority of the time and yes my fish will grow in but I feel like the tank can handle a much bigger bioload. So when's the point where you stop adding things in?

Before your filtration can’t handle the bioload, taking fish growth/increased bioload into account.

It all hinges around nutrient export of the tank. The nutrients must go somewhere.

I added ten fish within the first few months. Now I haven't added any in about a year. They are all getting along, so I don't want to mess it up.

It’s been a few years since I added any fish. I have 8 fish and 2 Dwarf eels in my 60 cube. I could add more but everyone is happy. ( flame angel, 2 o clowns, royal gramma, mandarin, yellow cronies wrasse, long nose hawk, sapphire damsel dwarf golden Morley, and snowflace Morley who lives in the overflow till din din time)

I have 11 fish in a 60 but struggle with corals becayse although algae grows slow it competes with coral and wins. The fish are doing great however and I absolutely could keep more.

Bioload isn't the only consideration. Also consider do you have enough territory for each fish. If you don't have enough space/caves/hides aggression commonly comes out.

/what fish do you have and what fish are you considering adding?

I have 8 in my 40b it was almost 9 today when I saw a beautiful leopard wrasse at the LFS. I would have bought it but it wasn't eating in the store so I passed.

Here’s my problem, I could probably add 15-20 fish, and only have three. I don’t want fish, just a Reef tank.

These wives know nothing about filtration! My wife thinks I can put fifty in my tank and it’s no problem!
