kist added sand and tank is cloudy, how long before I hook up sump and skimmer and everything and turn it on, once the tank is clear or now?

Run it now, throw in some Chaeto, it will help you cycle the tank.

It looks like I need more water because my little pump in the overflow box isn't completely submerged so its pumping water back in the tank but its loud cause its not totally submerged is it ok to run it like this or should I shut it down for the night? Also what's chaeto?

Maybe the overflow box isnt what I think it is lol

Theres a peice that sits in the tank and has a black box in the tank and a tube that goes into a clear box on outside of tank, this goes down through a bigger plastic hose into a big plastic box through 4 sheets of filters and then hits a bio weel, once the water goes over the little wall into the other side of the big plastic box theres a protein skimmer, heater and a little green and black pump that pushes the water back into the tank.

Also when I have the little black wide mouth nozzle on the return water is it ok if it's under water? Does it need to be above to cause bubbles or is it fine those should be made when water goes in bottom plastic box. I heard if the power goes out it can cause a vortex if the water return hoze and nozzle is below water level and flood my floor. Any truth to that.

YOu have to get the name of the thing, as I'm not quite understanding what it is. Does it go under your tank? If it doens't, then I'd not worry about a hang on back filter overflowing during a power outage.
Or is it a hang on back fuge like this?

I think I got it figured out, I just have to have enough water that everything that is submergable is submerged and if the power goes out that the box underneath the tank with filtr skimmer and what pumps the water back out wouldn't overflow before the funnel in the overflow box runs out of water to push down there.

I think I've confused everybody lol, the water level in the tank allows water to flow into a black box that sits in my tank, there is a plastic U shaped tube that has siphon going from the black box in my tank to a clear box on the outside of the tank. There is a gray hose connected to the bottom of that clear box that runs into the big box below. You can see where that connects on the left side of the pic. Water drops through 4 layers of filters and then hits the bio wheel (I think thats what its called) and then goes over the little plastic wall into the other side of the plastic box with the skimmer, heater, and water pump. The water pump is completely submerged and pumps the water back up into the tank via a black wide mouth spout that sits in the tank at the end of the hose.

One question though when I first hooked the skimmer up it got pretty bubbly in the tall cylinder now it doesn't really seem to do much but it is on. Is this normal or do you think something happened to the skimmer?

You may need to adjust the skimmer now. You want it foaming pretty good into the neck.
