When was a time you felt "stuck" in the hobby?

About 2-3 months ago when my sps was dying and I brined my euphyllia corals losing my first coral being a green torch a grafted frogspawn and a head of my green hammers, as well as the fact nothing looked real "happy".

Sorta that way for me lately. I got to a point where all my tanks are full and have two full (ish) frag tanks. I reached the "achievement" that I wanted and had to think about what's next. It kinda gets boring when all I do is maintain the tanks and not add anything new. But then I fragged some coral and was happy again. (My favorite thing to do) :grinning-squinting-face:
I know this is an old post but I’m am recently getting back into reefing after 20+ years and I’m wondering what do most people do with their frags in the frag tanks? I’m assuming some sell them but is there any other reasons I’m missing?

I feel like there are times when a problem or issues arises in the hobby, and we feel stuck. Maybe it is something not working right on our tank and not knowing what to do. Maybe it is a recent tank crash and wondering how to even recover from it. Or, maybe it is not knowing what to do next for our tank. I am wondering what was a time you felt like you were "stuck" in the hobby.
I had a green algae problem that I battled for a long time, Years. It would take over corals and I spent inordinate amounts of time pulling it off of rock, the walls, brushing it off with a tooth brush, you name it. I got all sorts of different advice (lower your lights, dose nopox, etc.) It got to a point where I was ready to give up, sell the tank or convert it to fresh water. About a year ago i'm on my way to an aquarium store to do a water change and on my way I see a plaza on the left with a big yellow sign "Aquarium Store" so I pull in to check it out. It was a new store. I started talking to the owner and explained my frustrations. Instead of just selling me some supplement he asked me about my whole setup. He said what kind of filter are you using. i said well my tank is only 29 gallons and I have a penguin 350 HOB filter and I put some purigen behind the carbon filters. He said you have the wrong type of filter for a reef tank. I ended up switching to the Seachem Tidal 55, using a chemipure bag as the middle media and Sera Crystal clear media (they look like little cotton balls but have the feel of fiberglass) on top. Within a week (and me still pulling out as much algae as i could) the problem was solved. No new green algae was forming, at least not close to the previous rate, and the tank looks amazing. Now i'm like revitalized and I want to get more corals. It's fun again!
