Alright so long story short I had some corals from different places quarantining in a separate system. Well that system had a bacterial bloom that was starting to kill them so I, last minute decision, switched them to my main tank and about 2-4 months later am dealing with this, see pics. Well I quarantined them and treated with cupramine for 4 weeks as well as prazi. I feel like I already know the answer, but I'm just baffled this could happen to me again. Im sure I know where it came from. My lfs has awful caretaking of their saltwater livestock and I bought a coral from them which could have been encysted with God knows what. All I need to hear is the two words.

You can use these pictures for educational purposes too. I just dont understand how my lfs can have fish in their frag tanks without them showing signs of velvet. Unless they have some sort of immunity.

I caught all my fish and added them to a 40 gallon quarantine. So, my powder blue seems to have a film on his eyes that is whitish and little white spots I assume to be velvet. He seems to be able to well enough to swim away when I approach the tank. I'm just worried. I'm adding the cupramine slowly as to not stress the fish. I can't really really get a pic either due to a lack of a light over my tank and he won't stay still long enough to use the flash. He's still eating but seems to be having a bit of difficulty. Thanks for your help!

I agree that’s definitely velvet. It’s EVERYWHERE right now. I just cross contaminated my tank with it, too. Rookie mistakes being rushed.

In any event, I removed all my rock, coral, and water to catch the fish, and then took advantage of the situation to center the tank better on the wall, something that had been bothering me considerably, anyway.

Sorry to hear. That's nice you took advantage of the situation though. Good luck with treatment. My corals really looked nice with all the added bioload too. Hopefully they will keep their color and continue to grow well. I'm thinking about adding the last of my coral wishlist to prevent any future risk or encysted ich or Velvet, then counting 76 days after the last addition.

Great knees! Less than 24 hours later the powder blue has very little cloudiness left and is colored up. Will continue treatment though to be sure. Thanks!

Just to clarify, when treating velvet or ick I need to hold the copper dosage at therapeutic level (cupramine= 2ppm salifert) for 30 days. Then remove the copper and leave fish for 2 weeks to observe? By the way everyone is happy and healthy now in QT, which I'm happy I didn't lose anyone.

One more thing? Will having a coral QT a few feet away still be too close to the display?
