When will the diatoms be gone

My reef tank has been running for about 2 1/2 months but I still get diatoms on the sand bed only. I understand they consume the silicates brought in by new sand, but how long will it take for them to run their course?

Depends on your water change schedule and how much is in the sand and rock. So it's hard to say really.

If your nutrients aren't too low you can add gfo to Help pull out silicates.

It's new tank uglies, after diatoms don't be suprised to see hair algae and maybe some cynao. It will go away.I now it's horrible to look at.

Im getting spots of hair algae on my glass too.

Invest in some turbo snails for the hair algae.
