When your friend bulk buys and then is taking a little break from the hobby, you inherit some stuff. So I got a couple of boxes of salt. 1000 Gal worth and a bunch of fish food. The Reef Crystals seem just fine. 4 x 14 lb bags each box and they are all sealed. The Liveaquaria stuff are good too, but upon careful inspection, I found the bags ripped. I tried to put them in some cleaned out cat litter boxes, but they didn’t truly fit well. I didn’t want to just pour it directly in the buckets and I didn’t want to use plain old, every day trash bags. Closed it up as best as possible and moved them out of the garage and into a dry shoe closet. I don’t have any other buckets, other than a Tropic Marin that’s already full. How else can I protect the salt from becoming bricks? I do about 25-30 gals of water changes every 2 weeks for my 75 Gal display with 60 Gal Sump.

I would make sure the lids have a gasket for tight air proof seal. Rc come in buckets like that. Im sure you can find O rings

I think your best bet would be to buy a few 5g buckets with lids and transfer it over
I ordered some food safe, 5 gal bucket liner bags from Amazon to transfer the liveaquaria stuff to, and a couple of buckets. I was hoping someone would tell me its ok to store it like that for a couple of months and dont waste my money.

It looks like you have a salt, the best way to go about it might be to get a larger tank for the salt to go in say 200 or so gallons?

Nice haul. I'd mix the salts personally so that it would be less of an issue switching from one brand to another. If you mix 30 gallons at a time, I'd measure it out and use a Food Saver Sealer. One bag per batch. It would take some time, but it would make life super easy in the long run.

put in bag and bucket..H DEPOT lids have o rings

that thought actually crossed my mind. i was actually looking at my box of food saver bags to figure out if I had enough.

Even if you did just a few months at a time I think it would be worth it. Just be sure to weigh and not measure it. If you were close I'd probably buy some from you.
