Where can I get baffles for my custom sump? Is it possible to make them?

I’m assuming your sump is glass? If so, your best bet is to measure the inside of tank and get the glass cut to size at either Lowe’s or Home Depot. Use silicon to put in place and let it sit for 24 hrs and you’ll be set to go!

I took my measurements to Lowe's, and they cut them to my specifications . $13 with glass included.

This glass is too thin to make good baffels. It’s only 1/8” thick, ment for picture frames.

Go to a local glass shop with your measurements and request 1/4” thick glass cut to your measurements and edges polished. Use 100% pure silicone and inject into the joints.

You will need 1/16” space between the glass sump and baffels to inject the silicone so make sure the measurements you give them are 1/8” smaller than the actual interior space of the sump.

The glass is thin but doable (with plenty of constant caution while in the sump!) another option, my friend made a sump this weekend and used mirror glass from Lowe’s at 3/16th in. and it looked great. It even added a great reflecting surface for the fuge’s light! But now I’m wondering if there is something in the mirror material that might be dangerous to the tank...;Nailbiting

Glass shop, 1/4” sheets cost me $26 for five baffles.
Or go the acrylic route and cut them yourself. Most plastic shops will cut them to size if needed. I like DIY though and acrylic is becoming fun to mess around with.

The chemicals used to make glass into a mirror were not meant for constant submersion in water. I’d remove the piece and replace with regular glass. Fish and corals will thank you!

If you aren't worried about different water levels try that "Lifegard Aquatics AquaMesh Progressive Filter Pad". It's one inch thick so it stays put and is totally removable. Water glides through the course mesh but macro algae can't get through. I had glass baffles but once they were siliconed into place they were not coming out without breaking and all I wanted to do was move them over a little bit.

glasscages.com sells cut sheets pretty cheap.

We used PVC sheets back when they were cheap. Silicon bonding to plastic isn't strong enough to hold up a baffle so we cut 1.5" squares and silicone those to the sides then rest the baffle on those. That allowed the baffle to rest on solid surface rather than being suspended. Added bonus is that PVC doesn't transmit light so aids in preventing growth between chambers.

Like lead, copper, and/or silver? Yea all those things could be in there. I would take it out.

I bought 4 pieces of 1/4" glass from my local glass shop. They were for a 20 gallon long tank. I had them cut the corners too, so they fit better at the bottom of the sump, where the silicone is.

I paid $49. I thought that was a little steep but they did polish the edges too. The tank was $20 at Petco during their $1/gal sale. So roughly $75 into the sump.
