So I have a fire fish in a 29 gallon tank + 10 gallon sump. I saw the fire fish yesterday morning and forgot to feed it yesterday afternoon. Usually I feed it every day. This morning the fish was nowhere to be seen. My ammonia and nitrites are at 0, I only have 3 snails so I don’t think they could have eaten it. Tank has absolutely nowhere for the fish to jump out. What happened. I checked the sump, and the overflow box.

I think it is hiding in the rocks they can fit into very small holes in the rocks. The snails 100% could not have ate him I say put some food in step back and see if he comes out. If that does not happen look inside the tank the rocks and sand move them around. This happened with mine how long have you had the firefish.

I was convinced my firefish either jumped or died because I didn't see it for 3 months (not exaggerating). It randomly turned up again and was out and about for 2 months regularly before it jumped the overflow then jumped out of my sump and died :(

I've had the fish for 8 days.

If it went into the overflow box eshopps, it would have to get through the tiny black holes and jump into the white tubes, as I put a guard in front of my primary drain. No way it jumped out of the tank. I don't feel like going to the basement, so here is an old pic of the tank:

I lost sight of my firefish for a month one time. Depending on the fish I was adding to the tank it would go into hiding until it felt comfortable to come out. When I added my CBB it went into hiding for a month before I saw it again. Thought it would starve to death but when it came out of hiding it looked fine and must have been getting bits of food in his hiding hole to eat.
Firefish are very timid and get spooked easily, give it time and it will come out.

Mine have been AWOL for days, even over a week, then re-appear.
Unfortunately, they are known jumpers, so check the floor everywhere and they are known also to slip through the slats of overflows and end up in sump

The only way it could get down to the sump is by going down the dry pipe, it would probably get stuck and dry out, I'll check the pipe with a flashlight. I made the emergency drain taller, so that there would be no trickle.

I have several and they hide in the rocks and sand all the time. They will come out when they get hungry.

Check the floor good. Ive lost 3 of them due to jumping. Had to finally get a glass top.
I have glass to and completely covered, the back to. Literally no way, unless it goes to the sump, and jumped from there. I also checked everywhere, every little crack, every corner, throughout the whole basement, even far away from the tank.
