Where did the critters go?

I have 7 month old 150 gallon with a thriving refugium (I think), and cheato growing like a weed. (free if you need some in western Maine.) It also has rock and miracle mud on the bottom. I put 500 amphipods and copepods in a month or so ago and although I see very small critters still there, I see zero of the larger amphipods. I plan on ordering another batch but Obviously I have an issue. I was thinking maybe electrical current from the equipment in the other part of the sump? lack of food? Any ideas?
