I’m in the process of setting up a tank dedicated to anemones and clowns. My intention is to have one pair of clowns and maybe 2 anemones, depending on the species and size. I would love to have anemone like what I see in yalls tanks. I want purple or blue or red...something colorful. Problem is, I’m having trouble finding any that are less than $300. The biggest LFS in my area is not a place where I buy livestock and the other two rarely have anything.

So, where have you guys bought your nems and what are you willing to spend to get one?

Thanks!

Depends on the type of anemone you're wanting to get. You also have to consider what type of clownfish you want since some clownfish will tend to host specific species of anemone.

I can’t decide what clowns. Some of the designer ocellaris are beautiful but my heart belongs to a gold stripe maroon. This tank is only 32 gallons though. I’m afraid I would only have room for one maroon and I’d like a pair. I can’t decide. So.... one of those... oci or maroon. Opinions? Help me decide.

It is tough because the only anemone that will really fit in that tank is a BTA. For a pair of clownfish in that size tank Ocellaris are probably the best size. But, the BTA is not a natural host for those clowns. It may host them still, but they also may never go to it. I am kind of in the same boat with my 45 gallon and like you, weighing the options.

Here is a decent article for which anemones host which clownfish.
