Just like the post title says, where do they come from? Do they morph? Do people do something to get different morphs to grow or change?

Is very confusing to me, mostly because there are sooooooooo many different colors!

LOL JK ..well...they do come from the ocean, so not entirely kidding... but the different variations are the results of different DNA and effects of nature combined. Basically, there are different strains of them so they come in all different colors and patterns. Some will morph in different tank conditions, but ultimately it comes back to the different strains of DNA.

I'm not sure that's what you were getting at with the question, so if it's not the kind of answer you're looking for, I apologize. If you'll clarify your question a little bit, maybe there's a better answer.

Ok...seems more likely, thank you. Then explain this, how do people such as Jason Fox, end up adding their name to certain polyps? For some reason I don't see JF diving for different polyps.

Actually, it's funny you should mention JF because he actually DOES dive for his own corals...which is pretty cool!

However, most vendors do not. They receive their corals from wholesalers and then name them. The naming helps for hobby-level identification and tracking lineage. It also helps with marketing (which is probably the part you've noticed).
