I just got 1 polyp of purple hornet and want it to thrive and grow to a colony. I just got it on wednesday and have it on the bottom 1/3 of my tank under 2 150watt 14K phoenix bulbs. I just wanted to know where u guys have your purple hornets in your tank and under what kind of lighting?? Thx

is urs opening? i just got a frag of 2 polyps myself and they struggle to open but have never fully opened. it's been almost a week...starting to worry it was a waste of 200....mine is place on the bottom of the tank under 150watt phoenix.
Nope its not fully opened... I want too see it fully open. I can see the center yellow ring and the alternating purple and yellow skirt.. Im thinking the reason why its not opening fully is cuz it needs more light.. Where did u get urs?

Mine is mid level under 150W MH and in med flow.. Its very happy there, since i got it its already got a 2nd polyp opened

I bought mine and I was told that it needed indirect lightning since I have 250 wtt mh's. I put mine at bot and it has been a week and the bigger polyp's are opening but the little ones are still not.
Color wise I see more of a brown/purple but I'm sure they will adjust to my tank.

I have 250W 20K bulbs in my tank and my P hornets are in the top 1/3 of my tank I would say about 18 inches away from my lights and they are doing great.

Purple Hornets
I just wish i had some . But most of the zoas i have ,have better color in the
the lower levels of my tank . and just me but 20k bulbs wash the colorer
out .I have blues and purple that look a lot better with 12k to 15k just my 2
cent.

I am not a Zoa expert by any means and like Zarro, the zoas I have at lower levels in my tank have better color. But I have heard some people in here say that the closer to the light they are the better they will grow and growth is what I am going for with my Purple Hornets.

Ours are on the sandbed about 30 inches from 250w MH. They look great and are growing like crazy. They are getting undertow flow from Vortechs.

I had my nuc greens at the bottom of 2x250 and 2 t5 super antics at the bottom they thrived there I moved them up to add a trachy and they are not growing as fast but still opening nice, started with one polyp now have close to 15 from when it was at the bottom of the tank for 1 month 2 months half way up and it has only grew 2 new polyps since.
I mean its not closed i can see the center but the tentacles are at like a 45 degree angle.. You can see the inside but the skirt is not completely spread out. It looks like a nice polyp and looks like its been fragged properly. Also i was told it had been sitting for two weeks after fragging, so it should be healed.
