I wanted to gauge where people like to place thier montis. I have a bunch of different varieties and they all seem to like different levels. For instance my danae (superman) likes it lower in the tank while my rainbow and tropicana like it higher up. Would like to hear some others experiences.

i remember several years ago people all considered crusting monti's to be the most difficult sps to keep......and they had to blasted by light and flow in order to keep them.

now people are saying to keep the superman and sunset milli's low in the tank. and they do seem to do better in lower light with decent flow. my undata and setosa also seem to look better and grow faster lower in the tank instead of being blasted up at the top with my acros.

only encrusting monti that seemed to do well by being blasted was my purple haze, but it looks the same and grows the same pace now that its lower in my tank.

my rainbow never did well where it was at, which was pretty high light if i remember.

Hmmm, guess I'll be moving my sunset tomorrow... :D

Both my superman and sunset are getting fairly high light but the sunset didn't like it high up at all but it grew and encrusted onto the rock it was on so can't reallyl move it now, but it's growing and it's used to the light and is nicely colored and looking better now. The setosa is in sort of low light for now till i figure out where it likes it and gets used to my lights before i try and move it anywhere else in the tank. Acclimating it to my lights I suppose.

Got up and realized it was the SunRISE that I had in high light, and not the sunset... I have my Superman and Sunset somewhat low, and my Sunrise and Undata up high...

Where have you all got your Sunrise??? Its hardly growing at all for me...

I keep all my montis high up. I have 9 dif encrusting montis and they are all doing really well and growing fast. I traded most of my sunrise away but as you can see in my pics,it is a big as it was when i traded most of it away. My Setosa was a meer pencil eraser size when i got it and now is 2" by 1".

I keep mine mid to upper level in the tank. All have moderate to high flow.

My superman is low in the tank with fairly strong flow and it doesn't seem to mind it at all. Inless it's a branching Montipora (like digitata, hirisuta, or samarensis) I tend to keep them low. Branching forms I put higher. This more closely resembles their relative positions in natural reefs.

Superman

I have had to keep my superman up high in order to keep the purple from turning brown. He is at the top under one of the 250 watt MH lights.
