I am in the process of setting up my Trident unit and was wondering where best to take the test water from. Where does everyone pull theirs from?

I usually take from one of my sump sections, mainly the drain area. I dose 2 part in the main area of my sump so I feel like if I grab the water coming from the display BEFORE it gets mixed with the 2 Part I will get a close reading on what the display water is running at.

Whats everyone else doing?

one thing I forgot to mention on my setup is that I have the sump and all my test equipment in my filter room which is in the basement. So to pull water out of the display would be a bit more up and down the stairs for me.

Grab from my skimmer section with a syringe if doing one test. If doing several i grab a cup from the dt. Whichever is easier for amount of water needed.

I run a Triton system. For a regular manual test I pull what I need from the display tank using a syringe.

I have my Trident pulling from the skimmer chamber which is after my refugium. I had initially set it up to pull from the drain section before the refugium but calc/mag tests were bouncing all over the place so i moved it. Air bubbles I believe were throwing it off. Its measures much more consistently from the skimmer chamber.

good to know and makes sense. Where do you do your dosing (if you do any)?

Right now all Triton elements are dosed in the return pump chamber. I will probably be moving parts 1&2 to dose into the refugium and leaving 3&4 where they are when I let the Trident take control of the dosing.

Cannot see how it would matter from a testing accuracy/precision perspective. Trident has some ‘rules’ about how to get the sample water - just pick the spot that best meets the guidelines.

I realize this post is focused around the Trident, but for manual tests - make sure you rinse / wash the container you're pulling into several times with water from the area and then test.

Agree 100%. I never meant to make this thread to focus on the trident, more just to see where everyone is testing from. When I do manual tests I also rinse with tank water a few times before doing the test.
