Where does skimmer draw water from?

Hey weird question but I have the Reef Octopus Classic 110 int coral vue

Does it take in water from the pump or the bottom of the skimmer body, curious because my sump is small & want to position the skimmer so the intake is right next to the sock compartment of ice cap 30g sump

I don’t have that skimmer but it will pull water in from the pump
