Hi everyone. I am getting really frustrated. Every time things seem to be doing well in the tank, something has to happen. Ive had my 2 clowns for a year now in my 1 year old tank. 8 Months ago i added a firefish which died within a month and all i could find was the spine. 3 days ago I added 1 Banggai, I saw her last night when i tried feeding her (12 hours ago exactly), I wake up to go check on the tank and it is no more. No where to be found, not outside the tank and not in the back chamber. Why and how would it die if it was eating 2 days ago and it ate at the shop. Yesterday however and the day before I tried feeding her but she did not accept the food. Please help as I am going nuts here. Thanks.

Also, when I woke up my HOB skimmer was overflowing a little bit with foam. This might be because the banggai died or because i started Flux Rx treatment 2 days ago.

Why were you dosing Flucanazole?
Bryopsis will go away on it's own eventually,

Bangaii Cardinals are sensitive to many medications.

It may reappear, but this may be one of those nasty educational experiences we have all had.

Graham.

I have a GHA situation. Fluconazole is supposed to be reef safe for all fish, inverts and corals. It was acting perfectly normal up until today morning when it disappeared. I dont think the medication was the reason it died. What else could it be? Same thing happened with the firefish, only difference is that the firefish lasted around 6-8 weeks before disappearing and then reappearing a week later as a skeleton. It is really frustrating losing fish every time I add them, especially when there is seemingly nothing wrong with the tank.

Flucanazole does not work for GHA, only bryopsis.

Many sensitive fish do not tolerate it well, despite marketing claims to the contrary.

I don't think the med killed your fish, but you have a missing fish.

Happens sometimes.

Did you use live or dead rock when you setup your tank? If live, you may have a mantis shrimp lurking somewhere.,
Sorry just read back and I see it was dead rock.

Sorry, I have no idea, but if it's any consolation I haven't had much luck with Bangaii's either, and it's a long plane ride from Indonesia to UAE.

Did you have any bangai cardinals at the time?
I did have bangai cardinals , it didn’t harm them . I didn’t have much luck either with my bangai cardinals main reason I would say is that they are a low energy fish and can’t compete for food probably . I tried them twice and not planning on trying them again any time soon .

It does actually work on some strains of GHA, most people find success in eradicating GHA with fluconazole. And that is the thing, it happens SOMETIMES but this is my second time in a row of adding a new fish and it disappearing, not just dying normally. Also, as stated above everything was dry in my tank.
While the plane ride is long, the bangai was at the shop for at least 2 weeks so it doesn't make sense. Last time, when the firefish died, i just told myself that its the odd fish that dies for no reason but now I don't know if that's true. Thank you anyway for your input :).

I was told the same thing with the firefish last time. People said they never had luck keeping them. Well what can I keep if both of those very beginner-friendly and hardy fish don't do well. It is frustrating honestly, especially with the money I lost.

Sometimes bad things happen in the glass box.

I feel your pain.

I lost a Blue Tang to ich last month - it came out of nowhere. Spent almost $300 trying to save a $60 fish.

Same issue with fire fish too , these are the two fish that I couldn’t keep even though that they are labeled as “beginner fish” .
