I have added four cultures of Tisbe pods to my 60g, and have been feeding phyto daily. I was under the impression that the pods would be visible on the glass at night, but do not see any. How do I verify the pods are in the substrate or rock ?

They are generally hard to see. If you have a microscope, you can see them easily. Otherwise, they're not too visible on the glass. If you angle yourself so that you're looking at the glass from the side, and look at the surface facing the aquarium, you should see what looks like specks of dust. Those barely-visible specks are adult copepods. If you have algae in the tank, you may see tiny white specks on them. Those are also copepods (probably).

Bottled pods is the biggest gimmick. If you have suitable habitat they will be in force. Because you dont have a suitable habitat (evident by your lack of pods and need to purchase) they all died.

Why would they all be dead ? To be sure they didn't starve to death, as I fed the phyto per the instructions.

You should be able to see the adults without a microscope. How long has it been since you added them? It'll take a bit for the population to become large enough for you to see them on the glass.

Don't worry about the pods dying off after adding them-- they're definitely still in there. Just keep up the phyto dosing and they'll start to multiply like crazy.

I have not seen any stand out in my tank but in sump they are all over and love to hang out in my chaeto basket. Look in your sump.

definitely in any foam inside that hob. maybe turn off the powerheads to see them move better. or you could maybe take a handful of sand in a small clear container and rinse out the filter in it too, wait for it to settle and see if you see anything.

Don't listen to this guy. Growing pod pops takes time, especially if you have fish with heavy pod consumption. Absent fish, your population should grow quite well.

I have found a viable census can be done by using a small flashlight held over 4th top of the tank shooting through the water column top to bottom will provide a nice snap shot of pod density. You'd be amazed at the count after dumping in a bottle vs a couple weeks later. Hard to see but there.
