Where to buy softies

If you're looking for GSP or Xenia, your LFS should have some cheap, but you can often get some for free or super low cost from other local reefs as the stuff grows like crazy.

Zoas should be fairly ubiquitous at most LFS however you're right that the cost can be high for some of the rarer colors. I've seen fewer and fewer LFSs carrying a good affordable variety of leathers and shrooms though. Feels like the hobby has shifted away from them a bit so a lot of places are responding with a greater variety of LPS like Acans and of course SPS. Just my personal observations.

Live aquaria and divers den regularly have soft corals.

Also, fishy business

If you have a Petco nearby, it usually has frags for $14.99 and "premium frags" for $19.99. You can pick up leathers, xenia, GSP, zoas, palys and mushrooms from those racks.
Otherwise you will be paying an arm and a leg for basic softies online.

This is a good point. Online is great for harder to find, rarer corals, but for the super basics like GSP or Leathers, you'll always overpay and are much better off doing it locally.

Ruckus16, your profile says you're in Springfield, MO, surely there are other reefers there as well. Check the MO forum here. I'm sure someone would be willing to hook you up with some softies on the cheap.

I dont have a local LFS. I'm mostly looking for leather.
I got a leather from thereefoutlet.com I’ve never been disappointed with their corals. They don’t put all of their stock online, but you can message them on Facebook and they’ll help you out as best they can.
