I'm wondering what are some good reef preservation organizations to donate to. What's the best, have you personally donated to an organization, how was your experience?

Coral Restoration Foundation & PIJAC Aquatic Defense Fund are two big ones that come to mind. What kind of experience are you inquiring on? Lots of companies in the industry & clubs have publicly donated.

I'm just wanting to know where donations will be best used. When I asked what was your experience I guess im asking if they send you monthly donation letters or give out your information to other charitable organizations. I have a hard time watching the sad animals on a commercial with Sarah Mclachand playing in the background. I don't want to be sad every time I checked the mail.

Hey you can Always Donate to my Tank! I could always use the help in upgrading equipment!

I'm just kidding of course (no im not) but you could always donate to the Oceanic Institute in Hawaii. This being a private university, your donation will go towards the breeding research of tangs which (like corals) can hopefully lead the aquarium industry to propagation/breeding of specimen rather than natural reef destruction trying to accumulate them.

you should not be hassled by other charities I assume if you donate to them since they are solely using money for research purposes and are private

Our local club has donated to Coral Restoration Foundation a number of times.....great organization. We've actually had the founder, Ken Nedimyer, come up and talk at our local meetings twice. I also know that we've had club members go down there (FLA) and volunteer to help out. So that's my vote.

My vote is going this way as well. (The institute not the tank lol)

Thank you for the responses. I was a bit worried that this thead was going to get lost in the pit of id's, sales, and look what I boughts. These organizations both seem great!
