Picked up a cple of bonded midnight black clowns and when I got back the guy had also offloaded onto me a smaller single ocealarris that had been kept in the same tank.. He was beaking the tank down and these were pretty much the last fish.

My careful nature isnt so comfortable adding all 3 back together in this new environment, the pair are mature and the oceallaris a youngster so hes currently in with my seahorses where the water is a little cooler. Its not ideal being in this tank simply cos we want very low waste.

In my other 50 gallon I also have a pair of the same occealaris in a community tank and with nems.

Should I add him to any of these tanks safely or do i bite the bullet, buy yet another clown and small tank for him?

lol I just dont have much experience with clowns in 3's :)

maybe return the clown or give to someone else. It can be a bit of a headache keeping 3 IMO

Are you saying the 3 clowns were together in someone elses tank for a length of time previously anyway?

If thats the case you may not have an issue, they may be used to eachother - New environments can change aggression but if they have been housed together for a while im not sure id be too worried.

3 definitely isnt a great number for multiple clowns - I have a harem of 9 and wouldnt want any less in all honesty. But if they were previously housed together im not sure id be too worried about adding them into a new tank.

Just rehome the clown, unless you’re looking for an excuse for a new tank in which case, go for it

lol To be honest I realise that IS the obvious answer, I actually pondered the fact that I can never ever give anything away and why I pretty much live on a dam petting zoo nowadays :) I must be here to suffer on thier behalf or something messed up

you could try to add the clowns to one of the tanks, that clown may stress the seahorses while in there, so sooner is better IMO. If the clown is alone too long it'll go female, and that would make things even harder to sort out.

nope, didnt want the fish, its just fate I guess :)

sometimes ones questions are thinking out aloud as much as anything right? :)

Its looking like new tank, just a dam small one :)

a nano maybe, pico is too small.

But hey, you could go with a nem filled tank with some nem dwelling inverts, as long as you have a few nems in there they and the clown shouldn't fight

ok, yep, it will have its own place. so thanks for input, if someone had said, they were together before so no problemo at all then may have tried it but caution is usually the best approach.

Thanks

sump or sump less? either way go with a bunch of liverock and sand to kickstart that cycle. If you go full liverock and live sand (the real, good stuff sold by live rock aquaculture people, not the bagged stuff) you can prob skip the cycle and get nems a bit sooner
