As I prepare to get my 40 gallon cube up and running, I am wondering what is the general consensus of where to place various corals? The cube is 21 inches deep, will have a sand bed of no more than 2 inches. What types of corals do I put where in the cube?

It's really not that simple.....it depends on your lighting....and the corals you want in your tank. I just put them in and see how they do in a given spot....generally sps higher.....LPS and softies mid to lower.....then you have flow as another factor.....

On top of what is said above, just light alone will need some serious consideration, esp for mixed reef. PAR requirements can go from 50PAR to 500PAR and you need to cover both extremes so on a tank that small you will need to get creative with rockscape and add shades.

Getting a PAR meter is a must
