There are many different models. I don't want to be limited to having to plug into my laptop, so the sensor only without the handheld unit doesn't interest me unless there is something I am missing.

When looking at bundles - First, I assume we want to use full spectrum, right?

So is the unit of choice MQ-510?

That's the one I use. I like it a lot, but haven't used any others to compare. I specifically bought it to not only set up the lights in my tanks, but also to loan it out to Reefers in my area, so they don't have to buy it.

MQ 510 is the one to get but I also use the SQ 420 model as I just couldnt justify the near 450$ + at the time.

I loaned it out a few times during the covid reefers gold rush w/ a old windows laptop and it paid for itself in about 4 months.

Wider spectrum sensor with underwater correction factor built in is nice. The cosine corrected sensor is also nice.

Yes, the 510 is the one to get if you can afford it.

If you are close to a big city, you might have a fish club that loans them out to their members.

I use the SQ-520. For me I did not see the value in having the meter when my laptop is siting next to thje tank most of the time and I do not use it very often.

You get the 510 if you like to loan it, rent it or take it on vacation with you to measure the PAR in the ocean at different places. Hard take a laptop on a boat to scuba or snorkel. :)

510 and 520 are the same sensor.
