Which ATO would you choose?

I don't know what you mean by "dumps it all in at once". My reef tank evaporates 3 gallons a day. The Tunze adds water for a few seconds at a time, multiple times a day, in small volumes. In one of my tank sumps, I have a skimmer that is very sensitive to water levels and sits in the return section along with the Tunze sensor. The water level there barely fluctuates, thanks to the sensitivity of the sensor, and the skimmer never notices and the skim is consistently perfect. The problem is that Tunze is tried, true and proven, and it's difficult for another product, excellent though it may be, to outdo it or dislodge it from it's pedestal.

When the Tunze senses that water is missing it immediately adds all of that missing water and stops pumping when it's back up at the sensor. You can set the Specturapure to run at a 1/10th interval, which essentially slows down the replacement of water. This option is really nice if you dose kalk in your top-off water, this way it's adding water nearly throughout the entire day. The sensor is so precise it adds just a few mL of water every few minutes.

As an added benefit the spectrapure motor cannot burn up. Due to my own negligence I burned up a tunze motor because it ran too many times without water, even though it has an auto shutoff feature it still runs dry for several seconds.

The tunze performs very well, as I have both, the tunze is on my QT tank. I like the spectrapure because I can pump water from just about anywhere in my house to my tank. I use a remote ATO located about 25' away.

I use the Spectrapure Ultra Precise UPLC to pull water 30ft away in garage, and into a kalk stirrer, to sump.

I also use jbl.. Best $80 I spent. Know there better one but 18 months no issues.

I would suggest Elos, but the RMA process taking 6 weeks to get a replacement pump under warranty kind of less a rather nasty taste in my mouth that completely turned me off on anything they produce. Next time I will just use a 50ml dosing pump and float switches tied into my tank controller.

I know this is an old thread but I stumbled upon it while looking for a replacement pump for my tunze ATO. It died last week after we were stranded during the recent blizzard on the east coast. The ATO was dry for about a day. It was only a year old. So I can attest to the motors burning up when run dry. Other than the pump, which also didn't prime itself, I love the Tunze. Can I use the LiteMeter or is it pointless to spend the 100 bucks? Are there other pumps that would work well w/the Tunze ATO?
