i have taken some pictures with a sony cyber shot VX dsc-w5, 5.1 mega pixels and it was a nice camera did a good job. i found some on ebay and amizon. now i was looking around at some new ones as well.

if you can give me some link where i might get a good deal on one or some differnt camera i can look at it would be helpful.

sony's are crap IMO....

check out this website to look for something you may like. it has the best reviews on cameras.....as well as gives a good price range at a couple stores.

once you get serious about looking for a place to buy one, check out this place.

Yeah. Dpreview is a pretty nice site for checking out and reading up on equipment.

I would get a simple DSLR like a Canon XT and then spend most of your money on a good lens or two. Once you get into the DSLR range it then becomes all about the lens IMO for the most part.

What kind of photography you looking to do?

Yep i second the Canon XT or the XTi if you have more money to spend. Just need to get a good macro lens

well first off that sony was nice. i have barrowed 5 camera's and the sony cyber shot and a fiji i need the model # were so far the best careras i have my hands on. all the others i have barrowed or tried sux. i am not saying for sure that i want a sony and is the reason i posted this to get some input.

this came from that sony

You mean just sony's and just point and shoots?

if you are looking for a point and shoot, in the $250 range that you can also use on the aquarium.....I'd strongly suggest the Canon Powershot series.

with Sony, you are paying an extra premium price just for the name. plus, the sony memory sticks are not compatible with anything.

knowing what i know now, if i were to get a point and shoot camera i would only go with one from a big time camera company (canon, nikon etc.)

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS, 8MP ~$260

depends on what YOU are looking for in a camera.....

if i was looking for a camera to stick in my pocket, and able to use for anything.....and also shoot aquarium stuff occasionally....I would be looking for a compact size, good battery life, good ISO function, and good optical zoom....more the better. also would like a movie feature if possible.

IMO....camera's that have higher mega pixels and bigger picture sizes (higher resolutions) are only needed if you plan to print pictures out, and/or do macro photography for the aquarium.
