This will be my first DSRL camera and I dont want to spend thousands on it. Have been looking at the nikon d3200 and cannon's .... what would you recommend? also which lens would i need for taking pictures of my corals? This is all new to me.

the lense is more important than the camera, you will need a good macro. good glass on a cheap camera can still make really good photos. do a lot of research bro, compare cameras, read reviews, see what other people use, and then look on flickr for the camera and lense combos. it all comes down to your budget, you gotta factor in the camera, lense, memory card, cleaning kit, and i have a bag to keep everything in. i have the nikon D5100 with a 100mm nikon micro, im still new, and i need to get lightroom 5

So i have decided to purchase the Canon T3i camera with the 18-55mm and 75-300mm lense. This will be the best combo for me as i am a avid outdoors-man this will serve my purposes from fish tanks to wildlife ... not to mention with a 3yr extended warranty all for 600.00. Guess ill have to order my new tank tomorrow so i have something to take pics of! :horn:

I would forgo the 75-300mm lense. Instead put you rmoney into a good macro lense. Prime lenses, rather than zoom lenses will always take better pictures. Whenever you design a zoom you have to make some compromises to accomidate for the different focal lengths. The 18-55mm will give you a fairly good kit lense that should do well from wide angle to standard. Beyond that look into used primes to save money. Like posted above, good glass and crappy body will do better than good body and crappy glass.

A macro lens will come in time. the 18-55 will serve the purpose til then. The 75-300 lens will be used for my outdoor images such as wildlife. The lenses are Canon's so will see how their quality is.
