Maybe it's a stupid question but I cannot figure this out :)
I'm not into any of the designer clownfish, to me a classic clownfish that stays orange/white is best looking.
Stopped by local lfs, they had all colors of the rainbow variations but only one adult orange/white.
They had babies that looked like classic color, but some bigger ones were turning black on their top and lfs said babies will turn black aswell.
They said that what I'm looking for is true percula.

Is that what they are ? True perculas will stay orange with white lines ?

A typical ocellaris will keep its orange/white/black colors for the lifespan too.
Looks like they only had crossbred/black ones where you went. The typical ocellaris cost about $20-30 max at most LFS around me.

Just look for an orange ocellaris. The black ocellaris does start out kind of a dark orange, but they usually start fading to black pretty quick. Any store should have some standard ocellaris.

+1 on plain 'ole classic ocellaris clowns. Mine has been a solid orange and white his entire life.

If I could I would give you a bonded pair of plain Jane ocellaris that I have been unsuccessfully trying to sell for months. :D

For sure Occys, Perc have a bit more of a tendancy to get the darker black along the tops of their head at minimum

So regular ocellaris it is, but is true percula the same as far as color ?

Technically yes, the differences can be found in my signature. That said if one is more likely to turn darker it tends to be the Percs and not the Occys

From what I've seen of them, ocellaris can have a dusky look to their orange areas, but will generally not darken too much as they get older. Perculas tend to have a clearer, more brilliant orange to begin with, and thicker black outlines on their white stripes - but as they get older, that black can spread until it meets in the middle, leaving only patches of orange. I happen to think it's a pretty cool, dramatic look - but if you're looking for the classic "Nemo", ocellaris would be my choice.

These spawning Fireclowns stay orange/red. The older one is about 26 years old so I doubt he will become a different color now.
