I picked up this colony from a LFS and my friend says that they Purple Deaths that have browned out, but I think they are just the same style of polyps but are not actual Purple Deaths. So can you help me figure out which one it is.

When I first got them:

they're the same paly as the PDs, that's for sure.....but they are just regular brown ones, imo.

PD's sometime turn a bit brown to to extreme conditions, but there's still a very purple tinge to it you just can't miss.

hard to say.....you'll just have to wait for them to color up.

could end up being nothing more than your run of the mill button polyps....not sure if they are the purple death/nuclear green species or not......hard to tell.

ID have to say no but you never know just hope he didnt charge you PD price for what to me looks like is going to be blue green protopaly.

Definately not PD's looks like it could turn into Unattainables on zoaid. Keep us updated once it colors up.

i agree though, they deffinately dont look like pd's
i looks like they were more colorful when you first got them then they do now
what lighting are they under?
maybe go a higher color temp?

Hopefully they will color back up to at least the beginning coloration but I don't mind either way. I don't think they are PD's but my friend is convinced that they are so I decided to ask on the board to find out others opinions.

As far as how much I paid, it was 40 for the colony.

I have them under a 4bulb t-5 retro w/ 2xblue plus, 1x super acinic, and 1 65K
the piece sits at the bottom of a 20" tank with the bulbs about 10" above the water.
