Dealt with dinos for over a year, probably close to two. I thought I was finally over my issues, but after a few months of a clear tank they are back. I picked up a microscope this time around to get a proper ID. Hopefully the picture is good enough that someone can get a good ID. I referred to a Dino ID guide, but they all looked the same to me.

I'm not sure if this is the same type I dealt with before. This kind doesn't seem to blow off the rocks and I have to actually scrape them off whatever surface they have attached to.

Here are a few more pictures. I think this will be the best I can to with my "My first science kit" microscope.

Quick update in case anyone dealing with large cell amphidinium stumbles on this post in the future.

I had elevated nitrates (20+ppm) and phosphates (~.1ppm) which wasn't enough to get rid of the dinos. I started dosing Brightwell Spongexcel. According to the label, one drop per 20 gallons will increase silica by .01ppm. I started dosing 10 drops per 20 gallons and eventually worked up to 100 drops per 20 gallons and have been dosing that for about two weeks now. A 60ml bottle appears to be just enough for my 20 gallon tank. Dinos appear to be gone with a small amount of diatoms and gha showing up.

My dinos seemed to wipe out all of my snails so hopefully I can finally add a CUC without having to worry about most of the snails dying as soon as they are in the tank.

Thanks to those that helped with identification.
