Hi,

I'm in the process of converting my 190G reef to the triton method. However, with all the different dosers on the market today, which one does everyone recommend? I really like the GHL Profilux stand alone but in order to get 4 dosing pumps, I'll need to buy a second slave unit... not really thrilled abut that.

What is everyone using and why? I'd like to pull the trigger on dosing system before the end of the month.

GHL's are sweet.

i'm using what the situation demanded and budget allowed.....Jebao 4-head. It's been working fine, but I'm keeping a small repair budget for replacement parts just in case. :)

BRS has a nice pump that has a 1.1 ml/min flow, test the flow of yours mine was 1.2 and it has stayed steady there, and I use my Apex to control it. On/off by the minute is easy and, with a little work you can get it down to a second. At $60 per pump its a lot cheaper than a DOS and more than accurate enough for most applications and you can add as many pumps one by one and for $160 you can add an EB8 and control 8 more.

With this setup I can do lots of stuff, I might be a little too anal, such as stop ALK if the pH is too hight, don't dose if the return is off, whatever I think of in the future.

I already had the Apex and using it rather than a seperate doser allows me to easily have dosing affected by other things going on in my tank.

GHL Doser 2. It comes in a 4-pump unit. Can have 16 pumps total with more slaves.
It's the doser KING.
Don't trust the cheap chinese stuff with something that can destroy your tank overnight.

Another vote for the GHL doser!

You should check out the Kamoer doser. I have 3 for a year and a half now and they are solid. They just released a new unit which looks promising for small doses

If there is one thing I've learned over the years in both Cars and Aquarium equipment, the Germans make the best stuff! Now if the GHL doser wasn't out of stock everywhere :( Guess I will just have to wait.
I've also learned (specifically in this hobby) that just because an item has a lower price tag, doesn't mean that it's the least expensive option long term.

It's not out of stock with us direct ;)

We also just had a large shipment arrive Friday...

I use the apex DOS. I had one for my 2 part that I used for well over a year now with no issues whatsoever. I too recently switched to triton so I bought another Dos and they are working flawlessly so far. The only thing I don't like about it is the programing. The fusion wizard left out one step so it makes adjusting doses a little tricky. I cant figure out how to tell it to dose say 20 ml from 00:00 to 14:00 exactly 20 minutes apart. It wants to automatically figure the spacing for you so if you tell it to dose the 20ml it will space it 13 minutes apart. Now if you want a 5 minute gap between each part (there are 4 parts) you are kind of screwed. When you first start out with triton you are making a lot of little adjustments to get it dialed in (at least I am), so every time you change the dose it changes the dose spacing and you have to adjust every pump so no 2 pumps come on at the same time, which gets tedious.

GHL Doser 2 gets my vote. It is by far the most reliable and versatile doser out there. Not to mention, it's smaller than the DOS which only gives you two pumps. If you need a 4 pump unit, get the 4 pump version. If you later need additional pumps, you can easily add more by picking up a slave Doser 2.

Doser 2, 4 pump - $459.90 (4 motors)
Dimensions: 8.6" x 5.9" x 2.8"

Neptune DOS - $399.99 (2 motors)
Dimensions: 9.5" x 5" x 5"

In order to get the same number of pumps out of the DOS, you'd need two of them which ends up costing well beyond the price of a single Doser 2. Just something to keep in mind. :)

Just to clarify a Neptune DOS is only 299.95. It does still end up being more but it also has the added convenience and built in safeguards of being plug and play with the Apex.
