I have a 26g setup with a Emperor 400gph up to 80 gallon HOB filter, with a BakPak2 Protein skimmer. This may be overkill. However, I've been keeping corals fine with that setup for a while. Due to changes in my life, I need to sell off the corals and downsize to a FOWLR tank. I'd like to stop using one or the other. Should I still use both or can I get away with just using one? If so, which? Thanks.

I have the same set up, except I also have a fluval canister. I was thinking of dropping the hob emperor also. I'd personally keep both in your case. You could still run the occasional carbon media and any additional filtration will help keep the tank clean. I'd definitely keep the skimmer if it came down to having only one.

When it is game time in salt water keep the skimmer, later when the cash comes in get a reactor if needed and add GFO and Carbon, heck there was one just posted here with pump for 36.00 will and try and find it and post it.
