I am using reefroids but my god the phosphate spike is very high , .10 after 12 hours of feeding with refugium and ozone (I know ozone doesn’t impact phosphate ) and I am a little concerned

Any one has recommendations on coral food without sending my phopsphates out of whack ?

Also are your broadcast feeding or spot feeding? Ive noticed when broadcast feeing i see more of a response in my phos testing...when switching to spot feeding it def. Reduced levels treating it like fish food and only feeding what is needed helps a lot.

Phytoplankton are a natural food source for corals. I also use ab+ idk what the difference between the to

I do agreed plankton is good food for corals (based on my experiences), but some long time Reefer disagree. I use it and it doesn’t increase PO4 in my tank. Quite the opposite the PO4 has decreased.
I suspect you are referring to RedSea Reef Energy AB+ and that is amino acids, good source of N for corals. Amino is good to use if you don’t have enough N due to lack of fish or snails and it is important nutrient / building block for the corals. From my research the Red Sea formulation is quite diluted so there are alternative products on the shelves that are economical long term. I prefer AMIN from Fauna Marin but be warned I been accused of marketing on R2R so do your research. I use AMIN and little goes long way in my system and I only comment on things I have used vs. things I have not used.

Happy reefing,

Happy reefing,
On the topic of planktons - how much do you feed (I know there is no overfeeding here) but is there any dos or donts - and amount to feed for a 200 gallon tank - I am seriously considering it and may be mixing just a little bit roids to it for extra flavor and variety.

I use Coral Feast if I’m in a rush. No measurable nutrient spike even if I broadcast it.

I use these :

And try to follow this:

I do 1-1.5 ml two times daily.
My tank is app. 65gal total. I think you could do the same and work from there. I see nice cloud in the tank that covers all corals. Fish go crazy for it as well and in turn the poop provides additional clean food for the corals.

But I been told that I am flushing money down the drain and that the improvements I see are imagination.

I follow the philosophy that corals do require additional feeding, fish poop being best followed by bother types. Corals are quite adapt at hunting and are prolific hunters. Light and PO4/NO3 is not enough.

Hope that helps.

I was on the fringe - I started feeding my corals food just 2-3 weeks ago and since then I have seen better coloration specially from my Lps- so I am becoming a believer - beautiful picture - for now I am just running gfo till I finish my existing roids and then try the next suggestion

Do yourself a favor and don’t worry about feeding them
They get what they need from the nutrients in the water. If you’re looking to feed them to boost growth just look into something to raise your PH and you’ll be even more satisfied

Benereef is the best non PO4 spiking replacement for Reefroids in my opinion.

I definitely can see very visible difference in my soft corals since i started feeding- and hence i have a feeling they are doing something.

However reef-roids has been tested in the lab and concluded that for SPS it didn't show much of a difference (as per paper published in 2018). But may be I have confirmation bias - and hence i will continue to feed.

Onto another point - I did install a UV few days ago and since its been running PH has increased by .10 - and i have seen more vibrance in color. but i do not think that was the only thing changed I added new fish so finally i have detectable nitrates (though they are just .8) - and I have upgraded lighting.

While looking at other options -
1) With phyto i believe I can only do broadcast feeding - Any tips on target feeding LPS ?
2) I will try bene reef as soon as my current reef-roids are over.

Question -

Do I feed amino;s as well while feeding plankton ?

Thank you - Question could you please provide me more details about Coral Plankton - i am unable to find this product anywhere online - where do you get it from (I am in USA)?

Do you feed both (I believe one is for animals and other one is for corals) ?

Both products are from Fauna Marin. Per my understanding both are for corals but fish eat it as well.
You can try to contact FM in the sponsor pages or direct with E-mail. Sometimes the reply can be slow but I always got response.

I don’t live in US so I don’t know where to get it. I am lucky that I have access to FM products (online) and not just the most popular like Red Sea, we have good distribution here. I hope it stays that way, nice to have a choice.
