Which Foxface?

Hi,
I’m heavily leaning towards no tangs in my WB 6026 tank but I really like the foxface. I want a more “peaceful” tank with anthias, fire fish and wrasses if that’s possible. I’ve read that the foxface lo and the magnificent can’t/shouldn’t be put together.

If I’m to pick one, what are the pros and cons, against/for, one or the other?

I see no upside in trying it ..... could go bad .... but Foxfaces will very often buddy up with tangs.... my foxface and scopas tang hang together so much its noticeable

I’ve seen a Siganus unimaculatus decimate bubble algae in 2 tanks whereas the magnificent in my tank won’t touch them. Could be luck if the draw though!

I second this, my fox face is besties with my yellow scopas.

Yeah I remember way back when I had my old tank that the “lo” was more prone to eating bubble algae. My son is dying for a yellow tang so maybe I get 1.

haven’t seen a magnificent in person and they are quite expensive compared to the lo so I always wondered what the difference was

I have a magnificent and when the lighting is just right and it's feeling happy, it looks amazing. The lo on the other hand isn't as potentially stunning but is better on average throughout the day.
My mag doesn't seem to do much for algae but like the others have said is best buddies (until the lights go off at night and their is a little squabbling from the tang for the best nightly spot) with my scopas. Lots of herbivores seem to enjoy each others company so if your set on two you would be better with a foxface tang combo imo.

I agree, I would do a tang/Foxface combo.

We were in a LFS recently that had both. Both very attractive fish.
But I have to say, the Magnificent made me want one for my tank. That red edge on the fins is striking. He was blowing bubbles at the customers like a puffer would. I did not know foxfaces had so much personality. This photo does not do him justice. I should have taken a video.

I would be surprised if there was much difference in behavior between any of those close cousins (Siganus vulpinus, unimaculatus, magnificus, or uspi, or maybe one I'm forgetting).

That being said, of course I've been surprised before.

I'd just base my decision on what you like best. Do you want something big and yellow that you can see across the room. Or do you want something with some more color variation, and that's a little more unique, and you don't mind spending 50 more bucks or so?

I have 3 tangs and a foxface lo. Tangs don’t mess with the foxface. If it gets annoyed with the yellow, it throws its spikes up. I like the Lo over magnificent because it always looks beautiful no matter the lighting

I purposely went for a magnificent as my tank is mainly lit by sunlight in the summer and it just looks so good under natural lighting. It's also one of the tamest fish I've ever seen (which is great depending on your view of a venomous fish that likes tickles). I've seen tame tangs that eat out of your fingers but not ones as inquisitive as the average foxface.

All I can say is that I love my Magnificent Foxface. It gets along with all my tangs (yellow, purple, salfin, blue and yellow eye kole)

Anyone have any feedback on keeping a bristletooth tang and a Foxface lo together? Based on some of the above responses I have to assume it would be fine? I also personally prefer a peaceful tank.

I love our magnificent foxface. To me he looks stunning no matter the lighting, especially when he throws those fins up and shows off the red. He got along fine with our sailfin until he (the sailfin) turned into a tank bully. Sailfin is gone now and we have a couple yellows that the foxface gets along fine with.

Assuming tank size is adequate, no reason that shouldn't work.
