trying to figure out which Hanna phosphate check to get I see a Hanna phosphate checker and then a Hanna ultra low range pphosphate checker wonna make sure I get the right one to test phosphate in a reef

The ultra low range is better from the standpoint of the range, but more folks seem to have had trouble with it, so it is a toss up, IMO.

Despite the name, both test for exactly the same thing. But the ultra low rang can read a little lower with slightly lower error bars.

I use the ULR. I had problems with the LR. It (and my lack of experience) almost cost me.

My LR kept reading 0.00. I completely shut down my GFO reactor because I was carbon dosing and knew some phosphate was necessary for it to work. It continued to show 0.00 and I started to see algae ...never a problem before even with nitrates of about 20. Bought the ULR and guess what? My phosphate was actually about 0.4.

Started my GFO back up and my phosphates are down to a more manageable 0.03 and nitrates have fallen to 2.5. Some of my acros lost a lot of color and growth slowed down to a crawl. I have had no problems with the ULR unit so far.
