When doing Red Sea alk test you can either fill the syringe where the black stopper is right at 1.0 ml or you can pull it all the way to the top and the red liquid is at 9.5. which is the correct way to do this? I realize it doesn't affect the test much because you are measuring titrant used which doesn't change unless you use it all.... But just out of curiosity which is actually a full 1.0 ML???

The first one...bottom of black plunger to the 1.0ml line. Red Sea has a pretty good video series on their testing kits.

The first picture is right. But you need it up a little more, the black plunger bottom should be right at the line. From how it looks there you have .98ml. The test accounts for the bubble of air because of the space in the tip.

As mentioned the plunger should be at the 1.0 mark or it will effect what level your reading from the chart.
