Which is more invert safe???

Hi, I really want a hawkfish for my reef but I was wondering which type between the 2 below has a lower chance of eating inverts (hermit crabs, cleaner shrimp, etc.)

Some there say that longnose are good. I think longnose may be a bit safer since their mouths are smaller.

The only issue really with hawks is when you have smaller fish in with them.

They'll turn into jeff dahmer real quick.

Never had them pick at my snails but then again i have HUGE mexican turbos and nassarius that bury themselves.

I likley won't have any fish that is small with them. 2 full grown clowns and a full grown ywg and pistol shrimp.

Also I am looking to add a six line and something else... possibly gramma basslet or orchid dottyback

By smaller i mean anything smaller than them.

When I buy the hawk it likely will be juvenile or subadult

I had both of them, Flame Hawkfish for 8 years, never bothered any cleaner shrimp or hermits. Longnose jumped out after 6 months , but also didn't do any harm to my inverts. Just my anecdotal evidence.

I would choose the longnose for reasons outlined above. If you see your YWG alone.... you know who the culprit was.

I’ve had two long nose, the first made a pass on a cleaner shrimp the very first day I got him but never even looked at it after that, unfortunately lost him when he managed to jump through a quarter sized opening when someone else was feeding him for me. The 2nd hasn’t ever touched a fish or shrimp.
