Which light? A80 or Fluval marine sea Bluetooth led?

Don't know which one to get.. I know everyone one loves the A80 but the Fluval is half the price,has timer and full control over lights. Which one does everyone think?

Whats the tank size and whats in it? As well, a lot of people I've seen don't like Fluval's controller. Its quite buggy. The A80 has a controller for another $100 or so which basically puts it up there with the AI Prime HD. In that case, get the AI Prime! Thats what im getting for my Evo 13.5

It's going on a IM Nuvo AIO 10gal.. was just going to do soft and lps in the tank.. getting back into the hobby after 5 years.. trying to do this budget friendly too. So my wife don't kill me lol

I've opted for a China made LED and so far it works well. To the point of working that is. Good build quality and at $75 not bad either. Its on my newly set up nano so no live stock yet. I am a big kessil fan and have 2 a80s. For me I don’t care about apps or controllers I just want a light that grows corals. Kessil is great at this. It is the most idiot proof light brand I have found. The color blending, light diffusion, and shimmer will be superior to a prime or fluval light.

The prime or fluval will have better control. For me a light is a life support system and the control is more of a toy than a needed life support function.

The prime will be brighter if that is important but if you don’t expect to need the intensity then I would go kessil.

You're very right but I want the controller so the lights just don't go from dark to full blast every morning. I mean the fish and coral won't die but i would think its not the healthiest system to have -- especially since its nothing like nature.

That FluvalSmart will be plenty. I retrofitted the same model into the hood of my 20 gallon hex tank lid... it was almost to powerful, had to play around with the %’s. The timer leaves a little to be desired. Essentially you have a morning/night, which is ac lighting and the programmable day time (custom % of each color wavelength or 4 presets). It jumps straight from the morning ac lighting to the programmed daytime lighting, instead of being gradual, which is my only quarrel with it.

I just purchased a Nuvo 10 setup for my bedroom and I too was stuck between the A80 + controller and the Prime HD. In the end, I chose the Micmol Aqua Mini Marine G3. $150 gets you a light with built in controller, mount and 60w of maximum power. Granted you don't have wifi but for a budget, its hard to beat and can be powered up if you decide to go for more light demanding coral later on down the line

It doesn't matter what you keep, sub-par light is never going to be good enough. IMHO, AI Prime HD is the bare minimum for a light. Otherwise the SBReef Lights have quality black box lights.

Don't trick yourself into thinking a low quality light will get the job done. I've known a dozen people in your position and they always regret everything when they finally upgrade to a real light.
