Hey guys, new to the hobby and slowly setting up a marine tank. Currently looking to get the light unit now. The tank is a converted aquaone nano 60/100L, using the back compartment as a converted marine filtration system, skimmer fits in there beautifully with room for some cheato balls as well. The tank is 60 x 47 x 40 (W x H x D in cm). I'm looking at the V2 iLumen Air 600 or a Evergrow IT5040. The tank is going to be a mix of softies and LPS with a light fish load and a nice amount of inverts. I'm open to other options as well on the lights.

The G4 is a lovely unit, been looking at the XR15w G4 PRO but the price is a little above what I'm willing to splash out right now, £100 more than the v2 which is the more expensive than the evergrow. But it is a much better unit than any of the others, and I like the idea of the ecotec system being able to link the power heads lights etc together.

I've started to realize that I am constantly wanting my reef tank to look amazing and seeing other tanks that look beautiful, the three main criteria is: Stable water parameters, coral selection, & LIGHTING. If you're the type of person who is constantly making upgrades, it's cheaper in the long run to just get the best from the start.

Water chem shouldn't be an issue I hope, I'm a qualified marine biologist and oceanographer, and am experienced in setting up very stable tanks (tropical though I know marine has a whole set of other things to contend with.) I am leaning more and more towards the G4 now... Christmas is coming up Im sure I could put the money I get towards the extra cost!

If you want good growth and would like to save a little money to spend elsewhere look at the Mars Aqua Dimmable fixtures. They arent a big name brand fixtre but they are very strong. I use one on my frag tank and I cant even turn it up all the way. My blues run at 40% and whites about 20% . If you use the Mars Aqua and add one or two supplemental Blue+ T5 bulbs the color and growth will look amazing. On my display tank I have a 4 bulb ATI sunpower and I hope to get a Reefbrite led strip to supplement. The T5 and Led combo is a fantastic one.

I went from Razors to Radions.....if I were to do it all again I would save up for Radions. Worth every penny. I understand it is a lot, but save until you get there. You will never have to worry about anything with these units. Plus, you can find some G3 Pro's cheaper still.
