I have a variety of macros glued to my rock because I see it advised often. I was wondering which common species will eventually grow holdfasts and attach to the rock? Just wondering if I'll have to keep splitting and gluing it as it grows or if it will sort itself out.

Right now I'm trying to grow:
Codium, blue hypnea, red gracilaria

Those 3 will definitely attach to your rock work eventually on their own. You could always anchor the Red Gracilaria between some rocks or rubble instead of gluing ;Shamefullyembarrased
