Which monti will win?

I have an arched rock that has two encrusting montis and some zoas (I moved the ones I could and the rest will get taken out by the montis). One is a mystic sunset and the other a chili pepper. The chili pepper is a slower grower. Will the mystic sunset just go over it and kill it? Any way to stop it?

In my tank the palys always win.
Although looks like zoas in your pic.

There are alien inferno and scrambled eggs there, plus a few butt munchers that are dying. I was able to rescue some of all of them, though only one butt muncher survived and is looking rough (of course!)

It's hard to say which will win.
If you want to keep them together, a local reefer broke apart a center and filled it with reef-safe epoxy.
When they grow again, he removes the growth on the epoxy.

Thought I’d post an update. There was only one spot where the mystic was winning and several where the chili pepper was winning. Since I like the chili pepper more, I broke off the lip of the mystic and now I think the chili pepper will win.

Oh that’s a cool idea! Like a rip off section! Probably could start lots of frags. My Darth Maul and Mystic are advancing on each other. Need to remember this.

I have fragged that mystic lots of times. It's huge - the size of a dinner plate at least, and when it reaches the edge of the rock, it behaves like a plating monti cap, so I just break a chunk off the edge. Even the tiny pieces I broke off at the meeting point could have easily been put on a frag plug!
