I have a 40B that is mostly sps with a few zoas/chalice/acans. Would I be okay with one MP 40 or would two MP 10'a be better? If rather get the mp40 I'm just worried that one powerhead will not create varied flow . Which would be better and if anyone has example videos thatd help alot

One MP40 is more than anough on the 40b. Two mp10 is also great too but they take up more room than just one mp40

Mp40. That way when you upgrade you can use it on just about any tank

I'm not familiar with the MP line at all. So would one just give me a straight line of flow? Id like to have a wave effect if possible or at least varried current

One mp40 will push water in one direction. It will creat an undertow effect and can make a wave in a 40b

Two mp10's will push water in two directions (usually back and forth). But your really limited to what glad thickness you can use with them. They would be great for the 40b but much after a 55 they stop working because the glass is to thick.

Thank you and last question would be what are the different models of mp40 and what differences do they have?

I used two mp10s in a standard 90 gallon tank for a while just because I had them and I like them better than the koralias that were in there before. They aren't ideally suited for a tank this large. I was able to run them at full throttle without any trouble, however, and was surprised how much water they moved around. I have since upgraded to two mp40s. I wish I had the clearance behind my tank to run the mp10s facing forward on the back wall in addition to the mp40s.

I personally would prefer to go 2 x mp10w on a 40B over a single mp40. With two powerheads, you'll get a more gentle push/pull instead of a REALLY strong undertow pulling everything in one direction and a REALLY strong stream pushing in the other. The cost is roughly the same, get what you want. If the 40B is a temporary tank, and you have plans to get rid of it soon in favor of something larger, definitely go with the mp40 though.

No this will be a permanent tank for some time. Thank you for the descriptions. The issue with the two MP 10s id id have to move my tank away from the wall some but I will if necessary. Does anyone have a video to show one or the other in my size tank

The difference in models is the MP 10/40W es are wireless, meaning you can use one as a "slave" and have it counter winked with the other pump for a perfect wave. That and the $60 difference lol. Just Google what ever pump and model interests you. It is a very popular pump line and there is all sorts of info and videos on them out there.

If you won't upgrade for a long time then two mp10's would do well.

I wonder if some mp10's will work on thicker glass than others... My friend has a 65g tank that an mp10 wouldn't work on because the glass is to thick. I've heard of some working on 1/2 glass while others don't seem to.

It's up to you on what you want to do. Two 10's or one 40 will cost about the same. The 10's (if wireless) can really do wonders with the water movement. If you don't think you'll upgrade there isn't a need IMO to get a 40 with wireless because you won't connect it to anything.

I think the 40 might be my best net then. I'm not worried about cost. I'm most worried about how the sps will react to a single 40 or two 10s

A single MP10 wouldn't be quite enough, IMO. 2 MP10s would be great. If you can find a used one, an MP20 would ROCK!

Your SPS will be fine either way. You're gonna have the capability for more flow than your tank can handle. Even with one mp40, you're probably gonna dial it back some to keep it from causing a sandstorm.

I agree with this. If you're only gonna go with one mp40, you may want to look around for a good deal on an older non-wireless model or even a mp20. Then use the extra money for frags. The new ones are all wireless and more expensive. With one, you have no need for the wireless feature.

I was thinking this too
