What are you using for dosing nitrates into your tank? I used to use Stump Remover but I’ve read somewhere that they might have changed the ingredients and/or might contain contaminants. If you’ve bought it recently and haven’t had any problems, please post here! I know a lot of people are using brightwell’s nitrates but for bigger tanks, it can be costly.

if you’ve been feeding more to raise nitrates, I’d like to know what you’re feeding. I tried feeding more with pellets but it can raise phosphates more than needed.

NeoNito. It’s not that expensive. But I guess that’s relative to how many gallons.

I buy 99%+ purity sodium nitrate off Amazon. I am sure the commercial reef bottled products work fine....but as you allude to they can be very costly on larger systems that need lot of dosing.

Awesome, do you have a ratio of how much you mix with freshwater?

I used to mix 50g stump remover to 500ml of freshwater. Similar ratio maybe?

This is not exact, but close enough for me. There is a calculator linked somewhere but can't find it.

I use 400ml rodi to 100g sodium nitrate. Then 5ml of solution is a bit less than 2ppm per 100gallons tank volume.

Hello would like to know if this would be good to dose to increase my Nitrate levels. I'm usually at 0 would like to increase to 5-10. Here is the item I was looking at on Amazon
(Crystalline Sodium Nitrate- ASIN:B09JM9G1RG)

Yes it should work fine it shows 99.99% pure. Probably more pure than this that I use with no issue I just went cheap!

Depending on the tank size I typically just add a couple more fish and feed a bit more lol.

Ya I used to think of that as a viable option. However I am up to about 20 assorted frozen cubes, a couple tablespoons pellets, and about a teaspoon of powders and my nitrates don't budge. That sort of feeding gets pricey

You can use:

sodium nitrate - raises no3 and alkalinity

Calcium nitrate- raises no3 and calcium

potassium nitrate- raises no3 and potassium

( not the best product if you struggling with nuisance algae)

ready made nitrogen source off the shelf can be tricky as the nitrogen sources can be used by several organisms in a system including algae and may take some time to raise no3 due to those variables
