What type of bulb and ballast on the halide? I would venture to say they suck. So you are paying for a fixture is all.

From my experience you get what you pay for when you buy lighting...

do you think the t5's would be better...I am staying away from sps for awhile this will be zoas and other softies....you think they would suffice.

if your going with a zoa tank you need nothing more then PC. t5 would also be good but not needed. I for one say you buy the lighting system that will work now AND for yoru future plans. i'm not a huge fan or T5 so i would say the halides are the way to go

I have 4 T5's overdriven in a canopy on my 40 breeder. It lights my whole front room up. I have a mixed reef with sps, lps, softies, anemones all thriving under 4 bulbs. With sand I only have like 14" of water depth. Lights are 3" above the water. I think that 8 bulbs would be insane. I like tha fact that you can tailor make your lighting with multiple bulb selections.

I am not a canopy guy...I like the open top look.
