Which overflow?

Well the time has come for another build!!!! We just picked up a 180 gallon tank (Another build thread to come) Question for you lovely people. Which overflow manufacturer do you recommend? Running the Triton method so will need enough volume for 10x turnover.

Currently looking at these 2: Would love some feedback!

I am currently using the synergy reef 16” overflow and will be adding the same to my 180G build that I have coming up and have seen BRS is these overflow box on all their tanks and recommend them as well. I haven’t had any problems with it on my 46G and will use the same on my 180G as well. Also Rick and Vanessa are awesome with help and support. It’s just as slimline as your are looking at and with injection molded so it’s all one piece and very strong build.. I have seen good comments for both of those. I think either would serve you well. I run one I made myself from parts pushing 3500gph through it from two DCT-8000 pumps running 95%. I have 4 1.5 inch drains. 3 would be plenty for you.

Either Modular Marine or Exotic Marine are excellent companies and both of those will work well for your application. I don't see you being disappointed with either of them

well.. looking at it again. Do I really need the 3000 gph one? Could I save a few pennies and get the 2400 gph?

How long has it been running? I originally looked at that one, but stumbled across some questionable reviews.

I have the 16" Synergy reef on my 120 gallon. Main reason i got it was it had great ratings and was known to be extremely quiet.

I have used a number of the more popular overflow options. MM is my favorite with EMS a close second. Keep in mind that total flow is not the sole reason to pick an overflow, you also want to consider the length/size of the internal skin box. Other things equal, a longer box will skim better. Could you ‘get away’ with the 24” model on a 6’ 180 .... yes, probably. Would the 30” model be better ... almost certainly yes. The other thing to keep in mind is that the better overflows have the external box at the same height as the internal box. There are a number of threads here about noise problems with those that have a lower external box.

Awesome! thanks for the info. Ill go with the longer one. The price difference isnt that much anyways.
