Which Pods are best at algae control!

15 gallon. Bought mine off of reef and fins on eBay. Just recently purchased Steele’s pods to add to 25 gallon tank. Will see how they perform.

There is one yellow Coris and one flasher (McCosker's). The much-delayed lid should arrive any day now and I would defiantly love to add more wrasses if you have recommendations. I am also considering a pair of mandarines as it is mentioned at times they enjoy the tiny flatworms.

I would recommend an opossum wrasse for sure with the flat worms. Got a huge infestation in a frag system I have, but only in the one tank that the opossum jumped to the adjoining tank. All the others are completely clear of them. Also leopard wrasses. We love our blue star.

I think 25-50 would be more than enough. Unless you have a serious predator. They should reproduce nicely.

A 16 Oz Phyto would dose 16 ml a
Day for 29 days. An 8 Oz pod would be a good start, go with an 8 Oz majestic and you would double the amount and the little Harpa’s are awesome.

Does a red scooter blenny count as a serious predator? It eats frozen mysis so I’ve managed to keep a reproducing population of tisbe pods at least.

Probably not. They have a pretty small mouth so really not amphipod eaters for the most part. I was thinking larger fish, but didn’t think about 16 gallons. Probably not much you could have in your tank that will be a real problem.

Re: Tisbe and Apocylops along with Amphipods are probably the best for colonizing.

Curious your thoughts on Amphipods preying on Copepods?

I’ve thought about ordering some and my tank from years ago had some (from real live rock) but was a larger tank.

Mostly I’m concerned about competition for our Mandrians in a smaller tank. 112 gallons but also a 33 gallon (larger tank has a pair, smaller tank has a single male). Never heard of ampipods competition years ago but hear quite a bit now days.

Right now the mandarins are doing well and pregnant every couple weeks and we want to make sure they continue to be well feed as we really enjoy their mating dances and the female coming to the front of the tank and getting all excited collecting pods by the glass.

I’ve been dabbling in growing some tigger pods that we happened to have excess but in general was hoping for the tank to be largely self sustaining with an occasional order to replenish/ diversify. Yes understand Tisbe as better for colonization. The tiggers are just fun food

so on occasion i go and scoop pods from the water, all kinds of stuff will go in no clue what some of it is but it works for me
however to eliminate the need i’m currently trying to build a little above rank “refugium” which would just be a pod breeding ground with the overflow going directly into the display so no pumps get them or anything
if i can make the setup then im sure it will work and help keep better population and more stability to their populations as a whole

I like that idea. I just wouldn’t want a fuge very visible. However I don’t think the pods are really that damaged by the pumps.

Pods are moved across the world in ship hulls, and in the surf. However I think that design could be a lot of fun.

In our 3XL900 we had it fallow for a period do to the dreaded ich and it blossomed with life. Both in display and in fuge so I’m guessing it’s a wild ride, but most probably survive the trip. God sure makes some amazing critters.
