which power head? JBJ or Koralia

Does anyone has experience with the JBJ heads? I'm about to purchase them and need a little help deciding. The Koralia's are rock solid, from what i've read but what about the Ocean Stream kit?

Sorry, no exp. with the JBJ's but I will say my experience with Korellia's does not match your reading. Just FWIW.

I would really consider budgeting for some nanostreams - very worth the extra money IMO.

Don't know about jbj BUT koralias are super weak. Whatever the gph is says divide it by already 3 and then it will be the flow you are almost looking for.

What model Tunze are you talking about? A 6025 will not be near enough. A single 6105 will be plenty (and really overkill).

It's very possible that a single pump would do it, but that's in theory - we haven't even seen your tank yet!

Also how about your budget? If you have the budget and want to buy this pump "for the last time" I might have a different suggestion than otherwise.

Without seeing the tank here's some generic advice. I would guess that you'll end up needing two pumps - 6045's or better. (If cash flow is an issue, buy them one at a time - about $95/each.) I would run them at opposite ends of the tank on timers to simulate a tide - one on for a few hours, then the other. If your tank is right for it, this setup could potentially last you until your corals are fairly grown out. (Mine did....but that's on a 50 gallon tank...3' version of your tank.)

This is my first sw tank so I'm learning as I go. It's not set-up yet but I've collected all of the equipment except the pumps and power heads. I'd rather not break the bank as I still have to stock the tank. That's why I was looking at the JBJ or Koralia's. The tank is also drilled for a closed loop system but I don't like where the returns are located and have concerns about how loud the external pump will be.

Koralias are a joke. Ive had 8 break on me. yeah theyll replace them for you but if a companys product is expected to break and they do nothing about it thats not a company I will support.

I use sicce voyager 3's in my 50 gallon breeder, they have plenty of flow and are quite.

I have the jbj ocean streams on my 90 that run for 90 sec and switch to the opposite one. I use them for direct flow on the corals. I also am running 2 @ 3/4" penductor/eductors off of my return for added flow. I ran 2 k3's for the last 4 yrs. without a problem. I switched cause i wanted to try something different.

are you running the 1600gph? if so, how big are those suckers?

Closed loop may work if you need it but is a little antiquated IMO.

As I said if budget is an issue, buy in phases so you can have time to save money. (Saving money - also antiquated?) In the short run it's even cheaper to go with the single 6045 vs the JBJ solution. Your tank will be fine in the short run and IMO you and your corals will both be better off in the long run.

Please don't waste your money on Koralia. I bought them about a year ago and in that time, I have had two of them replaced, had to have parts shipped to me to repair the cheap construction. They would run backwards, and then, just yesterday I turned off all the pumps to kill a few aptaisa. When I went to turn the pumps back on, I just happened to have my hand in the water and it shocked the heck out of me. I have found out these things are notorius for stray voltage and running backwards. I immediately went and bought a Sicca Voyager and am loving it...much more solid construction! They are a little pricey, and I bought only one, but I plan to buy one per payday until I have all my Koralia's replaced.
